Frequently asked questions

Is JSON valid YAML?

Yes - JSON is technically a subset of YAML 1.2, so any JSON document parses as YAML. Conversion still helps: YAML output drops the braces and quotes, which reads better in Kubernetes manifests and CI configs.

How are strings quoted?

Plain strings stay bare. Strings with special characters, leading or trailing spaces, or values that look like numbers, booleans, or null are double-quoted so they round-trip with the same meaning.

How are empty objects, arrays, and nulls handled?

Empty objects render as {}, empty arrays as [], and nulls as null - all valid YAML that parse back to the same JSON values.

Can I convert YAML back to JSON?

This tool converts one way, JSON to YAML. To inspect the JSON side of a config, paste it into the formatter or open it in the block visualizer.

Will the YAML work in Kubernetes and CI configs?

The output uses plain 2-space indented YAML with no exotic features, which Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, and compose files all accept. Always validate against your specific schema after converting.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Config files often hold secrets, so nothing here is sent, stored, or logged.
